I'm no Angel

I put on a Halloween costume for a party this weekend. What’s significant about that statement is that I dreaded the aforementioned party for two weeks, right up until the moment I applied a final swipe of glitter to my cheeks and sauntered my sequined ass out the front door.

When it was all said and done, I looked fabulous, danced my ass off and had a wonderful time, but getting there was daunting.

For one thing, I have not, historically, been particularly creative in my sporadic bouts of costumery over the years. The last costume I donned about four years ago was Sookie from True Blood, and I chose her because she was easy.

I ordered a Merlotte’s T-shirt and apron from the online HBO store, added black shorts and tennis shoes, put my hair in a ponytail, slapped a plastic fang bite and some fake blood on my neck and called it a day.

One time, at band camp

Hello, my name is Amy, and I’m a recovering band nerd.

See, I was invited to attend two recent UofL home football games at the very impressive Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

I am not a big sports fan on the best of days, but I have always loved attending sporting events.

I enjoy the whole package — the camaraderie, the energy, the crappy concession food and the music.

Ah yes, the music. The school band music. Cue the clarinets, please.

I’m coming down off of a wild weekend, and it's going to take this ol’ body a long time to recover. But it’s not what you’re thinking … I worked my ass off during two 10-hour shifts in the service industry this past Friday and Saturday nights. I had a great time, but I am here to tell ya that I could not do it for a living. Shew!

Allow me to explain.

I’ve written in this space before about a new and fabulous girlfriend who is quickly becoming my true soul sister. This amazing chica, Meredith, is a co-owner of Wick’s Pizza and Pub here in Louisville.

The original Wick’s location in the Highlands opened more than 20 years ago. In the years since, the business has expanded to include several other restaurants. Today, there are four in Louisville and one nestled in downtown New Albany, Ind.

A grateful girl

I’m feeling a little icky today, so I thought I’d share a short gratitude list to take my mind off of my physical discomfort.

Hey, distraction works, man. Just ask any parent.

First, I’m very grateful that my little dog Sam is back to normal. In fact, she’s got so much energy, I’m thinking there must have been Wonder Dog serum in her antibiotics.

I’m also grateful that Sam waited to get deathly ill until I was out of the corporate world. It would have been so hard to leave her to go into an 8 to 5 office job all last week after our weekend trauma. It was such a luxury to work in my home office while she recovered at my feet.
